Ecclesiastes 7:19 - Wisdom gives strength to the wise man
more than ten rulers who are in a city.
Our Christian faith is founded on wisdom, or should I say Wisdom. The root and foundation of our faith is in Jesus Christ, who is the Wisdom of God.
Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Colossians 2:3 - [Jesus Christ] in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
1 Corinthians 2:16 - “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
God, in His great mercy, has grounded our lives in the Lord Jesus Christ and has gifted to us "practical" wisdom...found in the Scriptures.
Let me provide a simple definition of wisdom. Wisdom is when one takes the Word of God and applies it to all of life. They don't just read the Bible to be justified, but they read and apply the Bible to take dominion over all the earth. That's the wise man!
As the late RJ Rushdoony once said, "A man's faith governs the totality of his life, or else his professed faith is not his real faith."
The Christian who has a living, vibrant faith will apply Biblical wisdom to all of his life.
Marriage - Am I living according to God's dictates as to disciple my wife and wash her in the water of the Word? Or...am I just trying to survive another day with my spouse?!
Parenting - Our aim in parenting is to raise up Kingdom Warriors, built for eternity. Are we taking the Scriptures and applying it to our children's upbringing, education, family worship, etc?
Work - Am I working as for the Lord? Godly wisdom would say, put your hand to the plow as a citizen of a heavenly kingdom.
It's the fool who says in his heart - "no god for me." (Psalm 14:1). It's the wise man (the Christian) who wants to cling to and apply God's Word to all of his life!
Our Lord calls us to be a people of wisdom, contrasting the utter folly of our broken, sinful world. Don't act like the fool, who disregards the Bible...but seek to apply it!
Matthew 7:24-27 - 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
